Beware of Frozen Pipes

When we experience a cold snap chances of pipes freezing increase. If you have very little water running in your house, or in certain areas of your house, your pipes may have frozen. To help prevent pipes from freezing inside your home make sure pipes in cold spaces (garages, unfinished basements) are wrapped in foam insulation. But even pipes in other areas of your home may freeze. Keep the cabinet doors under sinks open to help heat circulate. If your home is subject to frozen pipes it is a good idea to run a constant trickle of water.

If your pipes do freeze, do not apply direct heat to them as this will cause serious damage to the pipes. A professional plumbing contractor should be called for assistance.

Never install insulation in your meter pit. Insulation in the pit will accumulate moisture and cause damage. Be sure to keep the meter pit lid in place as this will hold the ground heat in and protect the pipes installed below the frost line.

If you are experiencing issues with your water, and feel that is not due to frozen pipes, please contact our office for assistance.
